The great civilization of Phoenicia (now modern Lebanon) was known for many time-tested achievements, but few of these were as sought-after as the famed Tyrian purple. This was a rich purple dye created from the shells of the murex snail, which was so expensive only royals and other wealthy people could afford it.
But the murex snails have become rare in the shores of Phoenicia. Travel back in time and help our crafty artisan create a new way of making the esteemed dye.
Collect the shells of the colors or shapes the artisan needs.
The artisan’s technique needs dead shells. Living shellfish are not to be harmed.

What’s this about Ancient Phoenicia 5p521f
The Phoenicians were a seafaring civilization based in modern-day Lebanon. For much of their history, they consisted on independent seaport cities. Descended from the ancient Canaanites, Phoenician culture is tied to the sea. Their cities became incredibly wealthy due to the trade connections they made and their colonies were found throughout the Mediterranean Sea. They traded extensively with the Egyptians, the Greeks, and other ancient peoples across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. The product they were most famous for was the purple dye featured in our game.
Far more important, though, is their greatest contribution to modern society. The Phoenicians developed and used an alphabet, which was based on ancient Egyptian writing but easier to learn. This later evolved into many of the writing systems still used today, including the one you’re reading this in: the Roman alphabet.
We don’t have the time to get into the details, so here’s a video:
About Tyrian Purple 636z1f
Tyrian purple is a brilliant red-purple dye that was originally made from murex snails (such as Bolinus brandaris). Colorful dyes were very expensive in ancient times due to how difficult it was to extract them, and Tyrian purple was the most expensive of them all. It took tens of thousands of snails and a lot of laborers to make a small amount of dye. As a result, only the very rich could afford it. And, sadly, the snails are killed in the process as explained in the game; today, murex snails are largely gone from the Mediterranean Sea.
Tyrian purple is named after the city of Tyre, one of the wealthiest and most influential of the Phoenician cities. It was the dye of choice for royalty in the ancient Mediterranean, particularly among the emperors of Rome. Fittingly, it’s also known as royal purple.
