  • Basic rules
    • Shoot down as many aliens as you can.
    • Don’t let the aliens shoot you.
      • As much as possible, try to dodge alien enemy fire.
      • Take cover from the aliens using the asteroids in front of you. These wear down over time.
      • Collect asteroid power ups to replace the asteroids you lose.
      • Collect shield bubble power ups to protect yourself from the aliens.
  • Winning vs losing
    • Don’t let the aliens land on the ground. If even just one of them does, it’s game over.
    • Kill all the aliens to clear the level. Clear as many levels as you can.
  • Levels
    • This game has 5 levels which are unlocked sequentially, followed by a boss battle.
    • When you lose all of your lives the game has a “DAY” button on the game over screen. You play the same exact 5 levels under day mode, but play with a different screen background image.
  • Lives
    • You begin with 3 lives, represented by hearts on the top left corner of the screen.
    • Each time you get shot by an alien, you lose a life.
      • Lose all your lives and it’s game over.
      • You can collect heart power ups to replenish one of your lives.
      • Whenever you beat a level you start the next level with 3 lives.
  • Strategy
    • Act fast
      • The rocks work against you almost as much as they work for you, as you can’t shoot through them.
      • Any time spent hiding behind rocks is time spent not shooting aliens.
      • Aliens in this game not only move side to side, but they also descend down the screen quickly.
    • Try to hit the enemies which are lower down on the screen early.
      • This gives you more time to react to inbound enemy shots & makes it less likely for enemies to run into the ground.
      • Whenever you die you respawn in the lower left corner of the screen, so it makes sense to take out the enemies in the lower right first.
      • If enemies are near the edge of the screen you can shoot a constant stream of bullets so that when they come back onscreen they get hit and die.
    • Take advantage of pickups.
      • Defeat an alien with 5 shots to spawn a powerup.
      • Defeated enemies may drop heart containers, rock replacements, and temporary shields.
    • Contextualize your approach
      • If you have all of your lives but aliens are close to the ground shoot rapidly and relentlessly at them until they are defeated.
      • If you lose a life you have others, but if any alien hits the ground it is game over.
    • Boss battle
      • The boss has 150 hitpoints, whereas you have 3, so it is a lot of work to beat it.
      • Time avoiding the rainbow spreadshot (ensure you are on the other side of the screen when it appears) and pick up as many of the power ups as you can.
      • When you have the power ups enabled you can position yourself to keep firing (with the shield) or to be in position to fire quickly (if hiding behind a rock).
      • The boss battle requires great cadence, timing, and a bit of luck.
      • If you lose the boss battle you start back at the beginning of the game, which is rather frustrating.
