A single checker can only move and jump forward. A kinged checker, which is a single checker that has reached the opponent’s end of the board, can move both forwards and back.
- Game Controls
- Click on a red checker to highlight it.
- Click on a square to move the checker. Checkers can only move diagonally, one space at a time.
- To restart the game, click the rest button.
- Checkers Strategy & Rules
- Each player starts with 12 checkers on an 8 by 8 playing board.
- To capture an opponent’s checker, jump over a diagonally adjacent opponent’s checker. There must be a free space on the other side of your opponent’s checker for your to jump into.
- You can jump more than one of your opponents checker so long as you have clear spaces to jump into.
- To win, capture all the opponent’s checkers.
- A player loses if they have no pieces remaining or are otherwise unable to make a move.
- Try and get your checker to the opponent’s first row as quickly as possible. Your checker will transform into a King. A King can move both forwards and backwards.
- Try to control the center of the board. This positioning gives you more options than the edges.
- Checkers is an attacking game. It can’t be won by playing defense because your opponent can force you to move.
- Be willing to sacrifice. If you need to open up a path, then a sacrifice may be the only way forward.
- Leave your bottom row at the edge of the board until needed. This will prevent your opponent getting a King.
