This is a “turn right” race car game where players touch the screen or hold on their mouse button to get the car to turn right.
- Press on the screen or click your mouse just before a corner to begin your drift.
- Hold the drift until you think it will allow you to remain on the middle of the course until the next corner.
- If your car touches the wall the game is over.
- Stars appear on the course. As you run over them you collect them. Stars can be used to unlock other vehicles including trucks and proper race cars.
- The options menu allows you to shift from a basic oval track to an infinite drift figure 8 track. You can also select between day or night games. Buttons at the top of the screen allow you to turn music on or off and switch gameplay mode to full screen.

Drifter plays into the tradition of simple yet difficult games from the early days of gaming. You play as a driver of a car that can only go forward and turn right. The catch is that you can only turn right at the corners. Miss the corner, and you crash into the wall. You can also miscalculate a turn and send your car careening into a wall.
The game has two tracks and various vehicle options. You unlock vehicles based on the amount of diamonds you collect from each round. The two tracks available are the standard oval track and the harder infinity track.
Good judgment is critical when doing the turns. You must focus on turning the car just long enough to center it in the track to avoid crashing. And don’t think it’s enough that you dodged disaster on your first turn. You must think ahead to ensure that your second turn would also proceed without a hitch. Thinking ahead is critical to getting far in this game.
Playing Drifter requires constant attention. The rules may be simple, but it’s not a standard car game. You must turn right by holding the mouse at the right timing. Press just enough, and you make the turn. Press too much, and you’ll send your car straight into the wall. You lose once your crashes or scrapes the track wall. Another tricky part is anticipating the turns. After making a turn, you immediately have to guide your car to make the next turn.
You can choose from two drift courses. The first is the Circuit Drift which is your standard oval course. This is the beginner level. The second is the Infinity Drift shaped like an eight. This is a lot more challenging to maneuver. You get stars on the track when your car makes the drive. Once you reach a certain score, you can unlock the next three car models. Drifter takes time to learn. Once you get it, it’s pretty addictive.
